Moreover, poorilluminance levels offered by the existing fixtures, which was well below there commended lux level to perform the aircraft maintenance tasks. These difficulties adversely affected the operation of the hangar, thereby being problematic to service a large fleet of 120 aircrafts.
Upon analysing the difficulties faced by the operations team, and on site-survey results, it was evident that the SEGA-500 High Power High Bay Lighting was the most optimum solution, to meet all requirements, be aesthetically appealing and offer glare-free lighting. Reducing the total quantity of fixtures from 226 units (MH 450W) to 113 units of SEGA-500W, the recommended average lux level for an aircraft hangar of 400-450lux was achieved. Additional energy savings and convenience of lighting control operation was provided in the form of GigaTera’s Wireless Lighting Control Solution(GeSS) by applying IPC Wall Switch inside the duty manager’s office. Along with the improved CRI level to over 80, this replacement improved the working environment by a significant amount. The Wireless Lighting Control Layout of the hangar was divided into 6 zones, based on the client requirement. This gave the client additional control on which area of the hangar required light and dimming according to the operational schedule.In terms of figures, comparing all fixtures operating at full power, GigaTera’s solution yielded 45% energy savings. However, for an instance of where only one baywould be used, results in a maximum energy saving of 82%, by turning off lights in the unoccupied two bays. This solution gives a key benefit of extending the longevity of the LED high bay lighting, thereby removing the maintenance of the LED lighting.
